ABOUT & HELP

Your Companion, explained.

Small actions. A practice that grows with you.

The ACC Companion helps you put sustainable living into practice, one manageable action at a time. Use it alongside the Guide to choose a starting point, understand what to do, and keep a record of what you learn.

Many starting actions are deliberately simple. The value is in returning to them: noticing what works, making room for it in everyday life, and building on it when you are ready. This is a tool to support your practice, not a test of how sustainable you are.

A practical rhythm

  1. Choose what fits now.

Start with one section and one manageable action. Five tasks make up a stage; they are not a daily quota.

  2. Understand it. Then do it.

Use Learn why and how to read the Guide. Mark a task done after doing what its instructions ask—not simply after opening it.

  3. Repeat what helps.

Bring useful actions into your usual routine. Keep a note of what worked, what got in the way, and what you want to try next.

  4. Review and build.

Return to a familiar stage or explore another when it suits your time, budget, and circumstances. Every stage stays open.

For example: make an eat-first spot in your fridge. Before writing your next shopping list, check that spot. In Notes, record what helped you remember. The checkmark records the task; the repeated practice happens in your life.

Useful answers

Do I need to finish five tasks every day?

No. Five tasks are a manageable group to explore, not a daily target. Some actions are quick; others involve research, records over time, or a larger project. Follow the task's instructions and take the time it needs. There is no deadline or streak to protect.

How are sections and stages different?

A section is a topic: everyday living, home energy, clean power, gardens, or regenerative living. Each has three stages—First Wins, Household Systems, and Bigger Action—with five tasks in each. Together that is 75 tasks. You can choose any section or stage; none is locked. On smaller screens, the floating section and stage controls keep your place visible.

How can a simple action become part of my routine?

Choose a repeatable action and connect it to something you already do—for example, checking your eat-first shelf before making a shopping list. Repeat it when that moment comes around and adjust what makes it difficult. Familiar cues and repetition can support habit formation, but there is no universal timetable. The Companion does not detect or certify a habit.

What if a task does not fit my home or circumstances?

Leave it unchecked and choose something useful that does fit. You do not have to buy something, own a home, or complete every task to use the Companion. Read the Guide's safety and practical notes before larger work, and get qualified advice when needed. An unfinished task is information, not a personal failing.

What does a checkmark—and my progress percentage—mean?

A checkmark means you have done what that task asks. You can undo it if you need to revise your record. Your percentage counts completed tasks; it does not measure daily repetitions, habit strength, carbon savings, or your overall environmental impact. Checkmarks do not reset each day. Keep repeating useful routines even after the setup task is checked.

Where do I find things in the app?

Today gives you a starting point. Tasks shows the selected stage's five actions. Progress lets you see and revisit the whole path. Guide explains the actions. Notes is for your observations and plans. Settings holds appearance, installation, account connection, backups, and reminders. Help is available from the question-mark button, Today, and Settings.

Will my progress stay saved?

The Companion saves tasks, your selected place, and notes in this browser when device storage is available. Check the save message rather than assuming a save succeeded. Clearing browser data, using a different browser, or device problems can affect that copy. The website tracker and app share progress in the same browser. Download a backup from Settings for a separate copy. Account connection is optional; check its status before relying on sync.

Do I need to install it or create an account?

No. You can use the free Companion in your browser without an account. Optional installation adds an icon to your device and, on supported browsers, a focused app window. It is the same web app, not a separate download with different tasks. Check the offline status before relying on offline access; account features and pages not saved for offline use still need a connection.

Can it remind me to come back?

Settings offers a calendar-reminder download that you can add to your own calendar. Browser reminders depend on your browser's permission and work while the app stays open; they are not guaranteed background notifications. Choose a reminder that fits a useful moment in your routine.

What happens when I finish a stage—or come back after a break?

Keep the routines that are useful. Review your notes, revisit a completed action, or explore a different stage when you are ready. You can return after a break without resetting everything. The 75-task path does not automatically create new tasks; the next step is yours to choose.

Should I reset my progress to practise again?

You do not need to reset to repeat an action or reopen a stage. Reset clears the Companion's tasks, selections, and notes. Download a backup first if you want to keep your record. If account backup is connected, the reset also syncs to that account; it is not necessarily limited to this device.

Research on repetition and habit formation informs this general approach. It is not a study of the ACC Companion or proof that using this app produces a particular result. Read about the Companion on the ACC website ↗
