Newer EV batteries show greater resilience to climate-driven heat

A Nature Climate Change study modeled electric-vehicle battery performance across 300 global cities and found that newer battery chemistries are substantially more resilient to climate-driven heat than older designs.

Under a 2-degree-Celsius warming scenario, estimated lifetime declines averaged about 3 percent for newer batteries versus 8 percent for older ones, suggesting technology improvements can reduce but not eliminate climate-related durability losses.
