U.S. heat dome brings dangerous heat to much of the country
What happened
The Associated Press reported that a widespread heat dome was building across the United States, with triple-digit heat expected in the Southwest and Great Plains before spreading east and potentially affecting up to two-thirds of the continental U. S.
Why it matters
The health concern is especially acute at night, when temperatures 15 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit above normal can keep people from recovering and raise risks for unhoused residents, workers, older adults, and people without cooling.
