EU industrial-fan rules target 31 TWh of annual savings by 2030

What happened

New European Union ecodesign rules for industrial fans took effect on July 24, setting updated efficiency thresholds and requirements for part-load performance information, spare-parts availability, and professional repair access. The European Commission estimates that covered fans will use about 31 terawatt-hours less electricity per year in 2030 than they would without ecodesign requirements, including 8 TWh of annual savings beyond the previous rules. The estimates are policy-model projections and will depend on compliance, sales, use, and enforcement.

Why it matters

Industrial fans are easy to overlook, but they run for long hours across factories and large buildings. Stronger efficiency, controls, durability, and repair requirements can lower bills and emissions without waiting for entirely new energy technologies.
