Southern UK stays dry after a brief break in the heat
What happened
The UK Met Office said weekend rain would be concentrated in northern and northwestern areas, with many southern locations receiving little rainfall after a prolonged hot, dry spell. Exeter Airport and Usk were expected to reach 20 consecutive days above local heatwave thresholds on July 24. The agency said southern temperatures could climb back toward 30 degrees Celsius by Tuesday, with a possible fourth heatwave episode in parts of England.
Why it matters
A short change in weather does not necessarily end accumulated heat or water stress. Public-health planning, water management, agriculture, fire readiness, and care for vulnerable residents depend on where rain actually falls and how quickly heat returns.
