What happened

Lagos State convened its inaugural Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic to turn climate commitments into projects that can attract investment. The Office of Climate Change and Circular Economy brought together public agencies, regulators, financial institutions, development partners, and private-sector participants. The work covers clean energy, sustainable transport, circular economy, carbon markets, resilience, and nature-based solutions, supported by a digital system for measurement, reporting, and verification.

Why it matters

Cities often have climate plans but lack the project preparation, governance, evidence, and financing structures needed to deliver them. A credible pipeline can help investors compare opportunities while giving residents and regulators a clearer basis for tracking costs, benefits, emissions, and resilience outcomes.

What to watch

  • Which projects advance from concept to published financing plans, procurement, and construction.
  • Whether community benefits, adaptation needs, and environmental justice are built into project selection.
  • How the measurement and verification platform discloses progress, financing, emissions, and resilience results.
