UK solar installations reached a record pace in 2026
What happened
UK government data reported nearly 172,000 solar installations in the first seven months of 2026. Almost 28,000 installations were completed in July, the third-highest monthly total on record, and more than 19,800 were rooftop systems. Installations increased over the prior 12 months in every UK nation and English region covered by the release.

The reported count covers installations of different sizes. ACC keeps the count separate from capacity and performance so a surge in small systems is not misrepresented as an equivalent surge in delivered electricity.
Why it matters
Distributed solar can broaden access to clean generation and reduce some daytime grid demand. Installation counts also reveal where adoption is accelerating. They do not, by themselves, show installed capacity, annual electricity output, household savings, grid constraints, or who can afford to participate.
