What is true

Snow can accumulate and thicken upper glacier surfaces even while fronts retreat. The regional study's earlier near-zero geodetic result has large uncertainty, and the cited historical continent-wide sea-level contribution remains under one centimeter.

Where the claim fails

Selecting the accumulation component while omitting retreat and later-period lowering gives readers an incomplete direction-of-change signal. Surface mass balance, glacier-front discharge, elevation change and total mass balance are related but not interchangeable.

This is a regional study, not a measurement of all Antarctica. Its retreat and geodetic estimates cover different components and periods and must not be added. The 1989-to-2016 gain and 2016-to-2020 loss estimates both have large uncertainties.
