Start with the task.
Use AI selectively. Keep simple calculations, formatting and file operations local, without another generative request.
Our AI Use & Tools
AI’s environmental costs need action, including changes to our own work. We’re testing alternatives, reducing unnecessary requests and checking what providers actually claim.
Before choosing a provider
Our practices matter alongside the tools we choose.
Use AI selectively. Keep simple calculations, formatting and file operations local, without another generative request.
Keep requests concise, reuse checked material and repair specific issues in a draft instead of commissioning the same work again.
These pilots use selected public material. Client, donor and other private information stays outside them.
Check outputs against original sources. A draft that fails review is rejected or repaired. Publication requires human approval.
From our workflow
These are limited pilots and initial trials. The labels describe our experience, not an environmental certification or a ranking.
The tools below cover selected public tasks in our workflow. This is not a complete inventory of all AI we use, and it does not mean every task uses these providers or that ACC’s website hosting has changed.
Compact public drafts and summaries.
Public rewrites, summaries and draft variations.
Public editorial and accessibility checklists.
Research preparation and source-checking checklists.
Public brainstorming and editorial outlines.
Claims & limits
Provider energy claims and impact estimates are not independent measurements of our work. We have not established a carbon-savings figure or a lowest-impact ranking. These choices do not make our AI use impact-free.
Local AI models and additional measurement tools remain under consideration. We’ll review options when they fit a useful task and our privacy requirements.
Understand the measurement limits →Our separate giving commitment
Our commitment allocates 1% of eligible earned revenue to work toward more sustainable AI. ACC donations and grants keep their designated purposes.
Giving supports useful work. It does not cancel the impacts of our AI use or establish that those impacts have been offset.
