Our AI Use & Tools

Use less.
Choose carefully.
Stay accountable.

AI’s environmental costs need action, including changes to our own work. We’re testing alternatives, reducing unnecessary requests and checking what providers actually claim.

Practices, trials & sources reviewed October 28, 2026

Before choosing a provider

Change the way we work.

Our practices matter alongside the tools we choose.

01

Start with the task.

Use AI selectively. Keep simple calculations, formatting and file operations local, without another generative request.

02

Avoid duplicate work.

Keep requests concise, reuse checked material and repair specific issues in a draft instead of commissioning the same work again.

03

Keep private information out.

These pilots use selected public material. Client, donor and other private information stays outside them.

04

Keep people accountable.

Check outputs against original sources. A draft that fails review is rejected or repaired. Publication requires human approval.

From our workflow

Tools we’re using and testing.

These are limited pilots and initial trials. The labels describe our experience, not an environmental certification or a ranking.

The tools below cover selected public tasks in our workflow. This is not a complete inventory of all AI we use, and it does not mean every task uses these providers or that ACC’s website hosting has changed.

API pilot · Testing

Infomaniak AI Services

Compact public drafts and summaries.

How we’ve used it
A connected Swiss-hosted API pilot. Our October 28 copy trial did not pass review; its wording was not used.
Environmental context
Infomaniak reports local renewable electricity and heat recovery for its AI infrastructure.
What still matters
Hosting claims do not establish a full lifecycle footprint or savings for an ACC task.
Trial record
Latest recorded trial: October 28, 2026.

API & browser pilot · Testing

GreenPT

Public rewrites, summaries and draft variations.

How we’ve used it
Initial browser and API trials are recorded. Continued API availability remains under review.
Environmental context
GreenPT reports renewable-powered infrastructure and supplies its own energy and emissions estimates.
What still matters
These are provider estimates. GreenPT says it cannot yet verify renewable energy for foundation-model training.
Trial record
Latest confirmed trials: October 24, 2026.

Euria

Public editorial and accessibility checklists.

How we’ve used it
We tested Infomaniak’s browser assistant on a carousel accessibility checklist. This is separate from its AI Services API.
Environmental context
Infomaniak reports Swiss hosting and local renewable electricity for Euria.
What still matters
A generated checklist is not an inspection of the finished work. We check recommendations before using them.
Trial record
Recorded trial: October 24, 2026.

Ecosia AI

Research preparation and source-checking checklists.

How we’ve used it
We tested a climate-news source-checking checklist. We follow references to original sources and check their relevance.
Environmental context
Ecosia says it selects smaller models using energy-evaluation tools and invests in renewable-energy projects.
What still matters
Provider investments do not make an individual response impact-free. We have not measured savings for our use.
Trial record
Recorded trial: October 24, 2026.

EcoGPT

Public brainstorming and editorial outlines.

How we’ve used it
We tested a public volunteer fact-check assignment. Any further use needs a fresh check of privacy and provider-routing terms.
Environmental context
We have not established an environmental advantage for our use of this tool.
Privacy & provider routing
Its policy allows recent conversation content to be shared with advertising partners and describes OpenRouter fallback. No-training settings do not guarantee zero retention. Use public, non-sensitive material only.
Trial record
Recorded trial: October 24, 2026. Privacy terms checked October 28.

Claims & limits

What we can honestly say.

Provider energy claims and impact estimates are not independent measurements of our work. We have not established a carbon-savings figure or a lowest-impact ranking. These choices do not make our AI use impact-free.

Local AI models and additional measurement tools remain under consideration. We’ll review options when they fit a useful task and our privacy requirements.

Our separate giving commitment

1% toward more sustainable AI.

Our commitment allocates 1% of eligible earned revenue to work toward more sustainable AI. ACC donations and grants keep their designated purposes.

Giving supports useful work. It does not cancel the impacts of our AI use or establish that those impacts have been offset.
